The National Telford Insitute (NTI) and the Scottish Aquaculture Research Forum (SARF) - Aquaculture Orientation Workshop.
Purpose
The NTI in association with the SARF staged an orientation workshop to discuss the strategic development of aquaculture in Scotland with a view to:
- raising awareness of the aquaculture sector amongst the engineering community;
- enhancing Scotland's engineering capacity and expertise in the aquaculture sector;
- identifying knowledge gaps and, where appropriate, framing recommendations for R&D.
Format
A limited number of key players from the fields of aquaculture and civil engineering were invited to attend the workshop. Workshop delegates were provided with background information and introductory presentations on aquaculture in Scotland and elsewhere, including both food and non-food production. Nominated task groups wiere then asked focus on specific subject areas, defining possible knowledge gaps and opportunities for R&D.
Delegates were provided with briefing material before the event to help ensure common understanding of the current status and potential future for aquaculture in Scotland.
