Scottish Aquaculture
- A Sustainable Future FIELD TRIP OVERVIEW - only a few places left ! The planned field trip will take in some of Scotland's most beautiful scenery, providing a taste of both the Highlands and the west coast. Day 1, will begin with a coach ride to the University of Stirlings Howietoun fish farm, smolt unit and fishery. We will then take the coach to the Institute of Aquaculture to meet the staff and tour the laboratory facilities. After lunch, the coach will take the scenic route to the west coast for an afternoon visit to the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) laboratory at Dunstaffnage. We will overnight in the nearby town of Oban. Day 2, will begin with a short coach ride to South Shian on the shores of Loch Creran where we will be given a tour of the Scottish Sea Farms site, inlcuding the processing unit, wellboat and a a boat tour of the loch to take in the cages and some of the local shellfish sites. After lunch and depending upon time and weather we will return to Edinburgh via Glencoe. The costs of the field trip will be covered by the delegate, and is expected to be £190 which includes, transport, accommodation, boat trip and packed lunches for two days.
