| Project Summary: To conduct a phased study with a broadly based investigation of the aetiology of RTGE to define the cause in the first year, followed, if justified, by work focusing on potential control measures, including a systematic study of the response to changes in diets. To enhance the sustainability of UK trout farming and improve fish welfare by facilitating disease prevention and treatment. This project will contribute to the understanding and treatment of Rainbow Trout Gastro Enteritis (RTGE) or summer enteritis, which causes significant mortalities, up to 30% of the fish in some cases. RTGE is the largest disease problem in the French and Spanish trout industries and is seen as the biggest threat to the UK industry. |
